量りがたい

はかりがたい【量りがたい･測りがたい】

1 〔量るのが難しい〕 (数･量の) immeasurable; inestimable; (深さ･意味などの) unfathomable.

●量りがたいほどの深さ unfathomable depth 《of the sea》.

2 〔量り知れない〕 inscrutable; impenetrable; (不可解な) mysterious; (不確かな) uncertain.

●彼の心中は量りがたい. What he has in his mind is a mystery to me. | I have no idea what his intention is.

・神慮は量りがたいものだ. Inscrutable are the ways of Heaven.

3 〔予測しがたい〕 hard to foresee [foretell, forecast].

●事故というものはいつ起こるとも量りがたい. There is no knowing [We cannot tell] when accidents may happen.

・その人の未来がどうなるかは量りがたい. His future is unforeseeable.
